Pathway to Awareness

Sadness holds me in it's arms
Takes away my joy
Anger fills me with rage
Too often anymore

People walk all over me
Weighing me down
I hold my head and cry
Not able to speak

Sometimes I can't breathe
I'm so overwhelmed
My life gets so intense
I don't know what to do

I feel like I have no one
With which to be friends
Alone in the world
No one sees me

These feelings inside
I can barely stand
Treatment may help
But the scars are still here

So, there's a contest for Mental Health Day, which is coming up on October 10th. Being someone who has suffered from depression for almost half of my life, and coming from a family where depression is prevalent I chose to do a piece on Depression Awareness. I hope the deviation and the poem may bring light to the deep problem depression poses in daily life.
